Ciutadella de Roses

The Ciutadella de Roses, has a historical-artistic ensemble in 1961.
The Citadel of Roses is the walled enclosure that formerly protected the city of Roses (province of Gerona, Catalonia, Spain), founded as a Greek colony with the name of Rode in the Gulf of Roses (the northeastern end of the Spanish coast). Despite the phonetic similarity, the identification of this name with that of the Greek island of Rhodes has not been proven, nor the status of the Greeks who founded this colony as Rhodians. Neither the time of its foundation, which literary sources place in the eighth century BC, while archaeological sources link with the nearby Emporion (Ampurias) no earlier than the fifth century BC Also the cult of Artemis associates both colonies. However, the drachms minted in Rode around 400 BC (with the spelling ΡΟΔΗΤΩΝ)2 differ from those of Emporion or Massalia (Marseilles) and resemble the Rhodian monetary typology.
